Description

Early burial ground now preserved in a park environment. Example of an area affected by Conversion of Cemeteries Act, 1974. Cemeteries affected by the Act were converted to "parks" with the headstones and footstones being moved to one portion of the land and the remaining land being made available for public usage. Includes the graves of many early settlers of the area, dating from 1881 with the grave of one of the Spears family, well known publicans of the Brisbane Water area. W. Spears had the first hotel license in Gosford. Contains grave of Edmund Allfrey Parks and his wife Ann who came to the area around 1860. Parks was a mariner, occupied in the shell gathering industry and owner of land in Woy Woy, giving name to Parks Bay. Brady's Gully Cemetery was one of two main cemeteries in the Gosford district, the other being Point Frederick. Closed during the 1950's. Source - NSW Heritage
